BIOS

BIS 3DS Hint: Defeating Chain Chawful: If you use Vacuum to steal the Sworms from Chain Chawfuls, they'll be much easier to defeat. However, you can only use Vacuum to steal Chain Chawful's Sworms when its head is sticking out. You'll need to use Fire attacks when its head is hidden.

Bowser Jr.'s Journey: N/A

Prima Guide: "The Chain Chawful is one of Fawful's minions that has burrowed into a Chain Chomp and is using it as a ride. The Chain Chawful rider often ducks down into the body of the Chomp, which protects it a little from damage. Nailing the Chain Chawful while it is poking its head out of the top of the Chomp body does more damage.
The Chain Chawful has two signs that it uses to announce which attack is coming. The signs iclude marks over its head, and whether the Chain Chawful rears up prior to the attack. But attacks can be easily repelled with Bowser, but when the Bros. dip into the Castle Path to hunt Beans, they had better be ready with hammers to smash back at just the right moment.
When the Chain Chawful inches back and rears up, it is getting ready to leap through the air and attack. Wait for the Chain Chawful to be airborne before crouching down into shell defense. The Chain Chawful bounces off Bowser's shell without doing a bit of damage.
When the Chain Chawful leans forward, it is about to rush Bowser with the fury of the Chomp's teeth. Bowser can punch the Chain Chawful right back into place with a well-timed counter attack. Shell defense does no good here.
Whereas Bowser must use shell defense to guard against the leaping attack and can do no counterattack damage, the Bros. can use their hammers on either incoming move to do damage to the Chain Chawful. As the Chain Chawful arcs down toward the heroes, swing with the hammer to rattle a few fangs." (Page 156)

M&LRPG3 Perfect Guide Book: "The movements of the insect that pops out of the Chain Chomp's head will tell you how to hit its body. If you suck the bug in using the vacuum ability, the battle ends."
(Original: "ワンワンの頭から飛び出したムシの動きで、体当たりの方法がわかるぞ。バキュームでムシを吸い込むと逃げ出してしまう。") (Page 213)

Nintendo DREAM: "A Chain Chomp possessed by a strange insect(?). The insect has attached itself to the Chain Chomp's head. The enemy's method of the attack depends on the direction of the insect attached to its head.
In Bowser's case, if the bug's head moves upwards, it will ram into you from above. If it moves like it is thrusting its face forward, it will charge straight into you. In Mario & Luigis' case, the upper motion is for Mario and the side motion is for Luigi.
If Bowser uses his vacuuming ability to suck up the bug, the battle ends; however, he can only vacuum the bug when its face is exposed."
(Page 138)
